Curriculum Vitae

Introduction:
Hello,
My name is James Wolff. I am a rapid-prototyping industry entrepreneur and technology consultant. I have recent, industry relevant consulting experience to advise clients who are interested in understanding market segment risk and analysis in respect to their particular inquiry through Ridgetop Research LLC.
In my career I have founded a low cost consumer 3D printing company and my inventions have been featured in a series of articles in 2011 and 2012 in PC Magazine. I have received mention in a variety of other publications including Wall Street Journal, Fabaloo, San Fransisco Chronicle, New York Tech Blog, Rapid Ready Tech, and more. Our low-cost, consumer RepRap 3D Printer was innovative in using lean manufacturing principles to design and prototype new components of our machine, allowing us rapid-prototyping design optimization and efficiency, and giving us insight into the implications the technology has on the shaping of the digital industrial market sectors. I have also participated in the George Mason University Entrepreneur in Residence program where I have received mentoring while concurrently participating in the NYU-POLY Business Incubator Center in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
I received my undergrad from Johns Hopkins University in music composition at their Peabody University Conservatory. In my time there I became very adept with working with advanced MIDI software and audio programs and electronic music pedals and equipment. My father is a mechanical engineer, and I spent many years drafting for him on Autocad for commercial and residential engineering projects where I learnt the trade of design and drafting.
I went on to eventually work at Diversified Engineering, a company that was based out of Silver Spring, Maryland. There I subsequently underwent training for certification in Autocad software specializing in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing design for commercial and residential construction engineering contracts.
In 2012 I led a project I founded, Buildatron Systems 3D RepRap Printers, to NYU-POLY where we maintained two stations at the NYU-POLY Incubator office in Brooklyn, and where we installed and operated a consumer RepRap 3D Printer. At this same time, a crowd funding campaign I co-developed; the Rygo Project on the "World's Largest 3D Printer, D-Shape", initiated a crowd funding 3D printer campaign through indiegogo, leading to the subsequent shipping and installation from Italy to Vancouver of a large-scale 3D printed Art Object, the design of which was licensed from Bathesba Grossman, a spectacular and successful artist of "Shapeways" fame. This "Rygo Project" has been featured in Wired, PC Magazine, Solid Smack, Makezine, Design Goodness, and more.
In my professional experience I have given lectures at Queens Borough Community College, Dorkbot NYC, Google ORD camp, and NY Tech Mixer. I am also a member of the officer team of Alpha One Labs, a Brooklyn based technology hackerspace. Here we offer Laser Cutting classes, 3D printer classes, pen plotter classes, and MIT Open Course Ware and Stanford series distributive learning programs. We were awarded two Editors Choice awards at World Makerfaire at the Hall of Science in Queens, NY in September of 2011. Operating as a non-profit, Alpha One Labs holds weekly membership meeting and is a gathering of inventors, engineers, and tech enthusiasts.
With respect to the specifics of entities in my area of expertise, I am familiar with the business structures, strategies, and technology of companies such as 3D systems, Objet, Stratasys, Makerbot, Ultimachine, and Fablicator. I also advise on new industry trends including small business investment strategy, Personal Placement Memorandums, LLC tech startups, and crowd funding campaigns including B9 Creator, Makibox, and more.
I also am involved with additional projects including being a co-author on a multidisciplinary team co-authoring presentations at the International Space Development Conference in Washington, DC, and the AIAA 2012 conference. You can find our website at www.asteroidmininggroup.com. We are a space consultancy resource consisting of experienced National Space Society members from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Loral engineers who are collaborating on papers and presentations at major conferences relating to several fields including telescoping techniques, space based solar power, asteroid retrieval, and proprietary intellectual property licensing of advanced 3D printers and rapid-prototyping technology.
Currently I am attending the New York Law School Evening Division program, my expected Juris Doctrate is 2015. This fall I am speaking in September at the Design for Manufacturing summit in Brooklyn, where I will be a panelist on the development of the rapid-prototyping industry. Visit www.dfmsummit.com to see a recent video interview with me discussing Buildatron Systems.
Sincerely,
James Wolff
